Jade Lee

Born in Guangdong, China, Jade started learning piano and dance from a young age. She then spent 4 years studying popular music and musical theatre at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Jade continued her training at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on a scholarship, becoming the first female Chinese jazz vocalist admitted to the College. Jade graduated in the summer of 2014, gaining a masters degree in jazz vocal.

Jade’s teachers and mentors, whilst in the UK, included jazz diva Tina May, British youth jazz vocal educator Nia Lynn, British contemporary jazz singer Brigitte Beraha and ECM signed jazz pianist Huw Warren also the distinguished British jazz educator and bassist Paula Gardiner, amongst many others, including Jacqui Dankworth, Zara McFarlane and Claire Martin.

During her studies, Jade had the opportunity to play at several different venues all over the country, including the famed Brecon Jazz Festival. Jade has also performed with Israeli Saxophonist Gilad Atzmon, Lee Goodall, Richard Roberts and Tina May.

Jade Lee has been my jazz vocal student for two years and has been a ‘Joy’ to teach. She is talented and hard-working. I look forward to following her career. One to watch — a bright future. -- Tina May
